HeinkelFest 2013

Bring your Heinkel to HeinkelFest 2013

September 18 - 22
Colorado Springs, CO

Warm afternoons and cool evenings, no better weather for scootering in Colorado!

Bring your Tourist to Colorado Springs for a few days of beautiful riding, camaraderie and good eats!

Colorado Springs is an incredibly beautiful town that sits up against the foot of Pikes Peak.

The rally will begin on a Wednesday to get a few longer rides in before the traffic gets too crazy. Our surroundings offer many beautiful ride destinations. I plan to be off work all week. So, if you arrive before Wednesday, we can ride even more!

I hosted HeinkelFests in 2009 and 2011. Attendees came from Arkansas, Indiana, Massachusetts, Oregon, Utah and of course Colorado. I hope all previous attendees can return.

I hope to see a few of my European HeinkelFriends as well!

Green Willow

The Green Willow Motel Cottages will provide lodging for HeinkelFest.

Green Willow has an elaborate property within walking distance of Manitou Springs. A beautiful picnic area is ours to use for as many meals as we would like.

Their property is beautiful!

A1 at Green Willow

They have 15 unique cottages each with a slightly different layout accommodating a different number of guests.

As of now, the cabins are on hold for HeinkelFest. I'd like to see us sell out the site by June 30th. If there are empty cabins on July 1st, they may begin renting to outsiders.

Green Willow is offering a discount for our event. Please make your reservation today : (866) 473-9455 !

Tentative Schedule:

Wednesday, 9/18 : Arrival

Thursday, 9/19 : Shake Out

Friday, 9/20 : Challenge

Saturday, 9/21 : Recovery

Sunday, 9/22 : Departure

Jetting: I have 15 spare high altitude jets for Bing carburetors. All Heinkel attendees will receive a loaner high altitude jet while you attend. Think of this as a mini-tech session!

Games: I have a few games in mind...and not the Gymkhana variety. I will intermix them into the rally.

Shop Time: In 2011, attendees helped me assemble the motor of my 103A0. I doubt we will tackle another rebuild in 2013, but who knows? Here are a few topics that might interest you: Timing, Cables and Valves.

Free Time: This is your time to relax and unwind. Or, feel free to create your own journey with one of the rides listed below.

Expected Ride Destinations:

Garden of the Gods:

Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods Park is Colorado Springs most visited park.

The park contains many rock formations which are ancient sedimentary beds of red, blue, purple, and white sandstones, conglomerates and limestone. The formations were deposited horizontally, but have now been tilted vertically and faulted by the immense mountain building forces caused by the uplift of the Pikes Peak massif.

The Garden of the Gods is located within Colorado Springs and is only a few minutes from downtown. I recommend several visits: morning, noon and night.

Visit the Garden of the Gods page for more information.

Pikes Peak:

Pikes Peak

If your scooter is up for the adventure and the weather cooperates, please consider a ride to the top of Pikes Peak.

Very few Heinkels have conquered the 14,115 foot mountain. I doubt sidecars could make it (my A2 with Steib won't attempt it), and riding two up might be impossible. But hey, who knows? This is a challenge!

There is only one way up and back: the route. You can expect a 4 hour adventure on this ride! During other Pikes Peak ascents, I've been stopped by snow at the 12,000 foot mark. Will we make it? Only Mother Nature knows…

Visit the Pikes Peak page for more information.

Seven Falls:

Garden of the Gods

Called “The Grandest Mile of Scenery” in Colorado, the approach to Seven Falls excites the senses and forshadows the dramatic landscape ahead.

Crystal clear water from the Pikes Peak watershed has shaped a spectacular natural box canyon: the steep-walled, enclosed canyon that’s become symbolic of the American West.

Seven Falls is located near the Broadmoor Hotel in Southwest Colorado Springs.
